Come listen to a sermon by a man named Ken.
From Santa Cruz to Oregon his calling came … and then
While sittin’ with his family in a church in San Jose,
He looked around and thought: “I’d really like to stay.
To preach that is. Presbyterian, too!
Well the first thing ya know we have a vacancy.
A group is formed to have a look and see.
To meet our congregation’s needs is quite a task for sure.
A list a mile long – like everything – and more.
Inclusiveness, that is. Everyone’s welcome!
Well we found the perfect match through Gold’s help and care.
Our committee said, “Ken, move away from there.”
They said Californy is the place you ought to stay,
So the family loaded up and they moved to San Jose.
Church, that is. Stone Church, Willow Glen!
Now Heather’s in the choir and the girls are off to school.
Church school rocks and the mission trips are cool.
Folks are helpin’ out with things from A to Z and more.
We’re really glad that Ken’s on board with energy galore!
Enthusiasm, that is. Everyone gets involved!
The Seniors in Transition group, a very welcome sight,
Activities are jumpin’ ev’ry day and ev’ry night.
Actin’, singin’, jugglin’ – he really is a star.
The kids all gather on the steps by Ken and his guitar.
Ken. Ken Henry. Unplugged.
Now seven years have come and gone and still some call him “new.”
The children’s choir is singin’ and we’re filling up each pew.
Time off for good behavior is a trend we’d like to see.
So take a hike – three hundred miles! Then on to Italy.
Sabbatical that is. Relax. Recharge!
It’s gettin’ time to say goodbye, the preachin’s almost done.
We thank you folks from droppin’ in and hope you had some fun.
You’re all invited back next week to this locality
To have a heapin’ helpin’ of spirituality.
Stone Church, that is. Set a spell. Let your worries go.
Y’all come back now. Hear?
